Explore Squam, Nantucket – Dramatic Ocean Views and Conservation Land

Located between the villages of Wauwinet, Polpis, and Quidnet, Squam features dramatic ocean views. The bounty and variety of Nantucket’s natural landscape define Squam, a protected gem that fronts the Atlantic, yet is backed by over 700 acres of unique conservation land.

Squam Attractions

Squam, away from the hustle of Town, is one of our favorite places to get out and explore. A fan-favorite of GPP, you must explore Squam Farm - full of secluded and beautiful meadows and fields (a great place to bring your furry friend). Squam Swamp, the Farm's sister property, consists of hardwood forests, freshwater bogs, shrub swamps, and meadows. The 1.75-mile trail is well-marked and full of adventure. Our favorite time to visit these trails is in the fall when the hardwood forests light up with red and orange foliage but it is a great place to get some energy out with the kiddos any time of the year. The Foundation’s hardwood forests at Squam Farm and Swamp were designated as part of the Old-Growth Forest Network in June 2021. The Old Growth Forest Network seeks to create a national network of protected exemplary old-growth and secondary-growth forests by working towards the designation of one exemplary forest within every U.S. County. In close vicinity to Great Point and Coatue access, these areas are also bucket-list Nantucket places to explore. Hop in the car, make sure you have a Great Point Beach Sticker or day pass, air down your tires, and drive on the beach to explore miles of protected land as you head out to Great Point Light, surrounded by water views the whole way!
