Explore Sconset, Nantucket – Charming Cottages and Picturesque Shoreline Views

Once a fishing outpost overlooking the shoreline, the east-end village of Siasconset (often shortened to Sconset) has the charm that makes it one of the island’s most picture-perfect locations. The 18th and 19th-century rose-covered cottages in the village are in full bloom in early July. These cottages marry the classic, gray shingles of Nantucket with English country charm.

Sconset Attractions

This east-end oasis is a quaint and cozy dining destination. Although all places are open seasonally, there's something for everyone. The Sconset Market serves as the general store, with fine groceries and amazing ice cream (tip - they have air pumps for your bike!). A must-visit is The Summer House, where you can dine beach-side with beautiful ocean views. There is also a pool. Claudette's is a local sandwich shop open for breakfast and lunch, with an award-winning meatloaf sandwich (tip - always get the secret sauce).

Sankaty Lighthouse is one of the three lighthouses on island and can be seen on your way to ‘Sconset. You will pass Sankaty Light which overlooks the Sankaty Golf Course and some amazingly beautiful summer homes off Polpis Road. One of the most pictured lighthouses in New England, Sankaty is the perfect backdrop for any event photo.

Sconset Bluff Walk is quite possibly one of our favorite places on island. A scenic stroll that takes you through the front yards of homes overlooking the bluff, this unadvertised public way boasts stunning shingle-style cottages with spectacular ocean views. A Nantucket resident and developer named William J. Flagg created the walk in the late 1800s after realizing just how much Sconset would grow in value and exclusivity. In the deeds of the house lots he created, he included a public right of way, which became a gift to future generations. A must-see!

Codfish Park and Playground is a great place to take the kids to burn off some energy before a night out to dinner, or after a day spent at Siasconset Beach. Codfish Park Playground is owned and maintained by the Nantucket Land Bank, just a few steps from the center of Siasconset Village.

Sconset Beaches

Sconset Beach is a quiet beach with easy access to the ocean. While parking is limited, it's a short stroll from the bus stop. With low surf and a playground nearby, it's a family-friendly destination, and one of the more popular places for a whale sighting!
