Explore Tom Nevers, Nantucket – Remote Beauty with Ocean Vistas and History

From the rolling, open spaces to pitch pine and scrub oak barrens, this area maintains the distinction of being remote yet accessible to Mid-Island and Town just off Milestone Road. The homes in this area are typically on larger parcels and often enjoy distant ocean vistas and evening skies. Rich in Nantucket history, it is said that the area's name is derived from a Wampanoag family who spent a lot of time whale-watching from the high cliffs of Tom Nevers Beach.

Tom Nevers Beach

A favorite with locals, Tom Nevers Beach features coarse sand and heavy surf. Great for beach games, cookouts, and nighttime fire pits due to fewer crowds and more open space. Residents and visitors love the privacy and country setting of this area, 67% of which is conservation land. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful stretch of sand with great waves and plenty of beach trails for bike rides, Tom Nevers is for you.

Tom Nevers Attractions

The vast open spaces are what makes Tom Nevers unique to Nantucket. From winding walking paths, dirt roads, fields, and more, Tom Nevers is a great place to get out and be active. Head out to Tom Nevers Field to find a baseball field, often occupied at nighttime by an adult softball league, a playground for children, and a paved roller rink with hockey nets and basketball hoops.

In addition, Tom Nevers Field is home to a Cold War-era bunker built to shelter President Kennedy and his family if a nuclear war broke out. Although this underground military bunker is typically closed to the public, it is rumored that it will become an educational exhibit and tourist destination.
