Explore Miacomet, Nantucket – Beautiful Beaches, Tranquil Pond, and Scenic Trails

This stretch of shoreline includes some stunningly beautiful open landscapes with gorgeous beaches and the tranquil Miacomet Pond. Just beyond the pond is the public 18-hole Miacomet Golf Course, started in 1956 by Ralph Marble, one of the island’s finest courses, complete with a full-service restaurant. One of our favorite walking trails to bring our furry friends is the Miacomet loop, which starts at the Golf Course and winds near the beach and back.

Miacomet Attractions

Miacomet Golf Course occupies part of a 400-acre site on the south side of the island. Miacomet (or "Meeting Place" in English) was the name given to the local area by the Wampanoag tribe that once inhabited the island. Open year-round, it's a great escape for both year-round and peak-season golfers with a membership of about 400. Many charity golf events are held here, such as the Harvey Foundation. The Land Bank contracts course management to Nantucket Golf Management (NGM), the same management team running the Siasconset Golf Club; another golf course on Nantucket.

From the longest tees, it presents 6,890 yards of golf for a par of 72. The course was designed by Ralph Marbel/Howard Maurer Golf Design and originally opened in 1965.

Fun Fact: During the 41st U.S. Mid-Amateur held in September 2021, Miacomet Golf Course was one of the stroke play co-hosts alongside Siasconset Golf Club.

Miacomet Restaurant is part of the golf club, offering a beautiful dining room with beloved Sunday brunch, a spacious bar, and outdoor dining with gorgeous views of the course. It also boasts a golf simulator and pro shop.

Just east of the Cisco neighborhood, Miacomet shares a few of the same main attractions. Two of the most popular are Bartlett's Farm and Cisco Brewery. Bartlett's is a great place to grab a sandwich or snack on your way to the beach, and Cisco is an awesome après beach spot, offering live music, great drinks, good company, and plenty of food trucks throughout the season.

South of Miacomet Golf Course, explore Smooth Hummocks Coastal Preserve, a Nantucket Land Bank property. This land offers beautiful walking trails along the south shore of the island, surrounded by grasslands and plant communities. This rare vegetation and habitat are found largely on the east coast, with over 80% of the remaining habitat found on Nantucket, Tuckernuck, and Martha's Vineyard. If you're looking for a picturesque walk, this is a fantastic island area to explore. Access the trail system through the parking area at the end of Mizzenmast Road or off West Miacomet Road.

Miacomet Beaches

Some of the best-kept secrets on the island, these south shore beaches offer fewer crowds and fun waves. Miacomet Beach is located at the end of Miacomet Road, and there are no lifeguards. You can also find Ladies Beach, a remote stretch of sand at the end of Bartlett Road.

Miacomet Pond is a GPP favorite for fishing and relaxing. It's a large freshwater pond in the middle of the Miacomet Loop, and good for young children. But look out - snapping turtles may be encountered!
