Bernie Coffin

Bernie was born on Nantucket and has 12th generational history on his father’s Coffin side and his mother’s Hussey side. Bernie graduated from Norwich University in Vermont. He met his wife, Carol, while she was a student at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. They both began their teaching careers in the Berkshires in 1968. Bernie began in 1969 working summers with his dad at the Sconset Real Estate office as a Real Estate Broker. Bernie took over ownership of the office soon after and Carol joined him as a Broker and they continued to enjoy summers working in Sconset. In 1979 the Coffins moved to Vero Beach, Florida as Bernie was a teacher/coach at the highly regarded Saint Edwards School in Vero. Summers continued at the Sconset Real Estate office until 1996 when they moved full-time to Nantucket as the new owners of Coffin Real Estate upon the retirement of Bernie’s mother, Grace. They combined the two offices under the name of Coffin/Sconset Real Estate. In 2014 the Coffins decided to sell their business to Great Point Properties and continue to work for them. Bernie and Carol have two children and five grandchildren who can enjoy Nantucket as a family in the summer.
